Barnes & Nobles nook eBook ReaderBarnes & Nobles is now competing with the Sony Reader and the Amazon Kindle by introducing its own of eBook reader, the nook.  Claiming to be the world’s most advanced eBook reader, it definitely backs up all the hype around it, walking the walk and talking the talk. More info, pics and a video after the jump.

With the support of B&N Booksellers, it offers more than a million titles to download over Wi-Fi (free in all Barnes & Nobles locations) or over AT&T’s 3g nationwide network.  In addition to the millions of titles available to purchase, there are over 500,000 free eBooks available for you to download at your disposal on the nook, as well as subscriptions to your favorite newspapers and magazines, like the Wall Street Journal, Time, The Economist and Washington Post among many others.  The LendMe feature is great and gives you the ability to share eBooks with your friends.  This ingenious idea allows you to read your eBooks on multiple devices for your own use or share eBooks with others on their iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, PC or Mac OS (for 14 days).

The B&N nook has an ergonomic design that fits easily and comfortably in your hands and features a contoured, easy-to-hold rubberized back.  It’s a little larger than 7.5in and weighs only 11oz which makes it thin, small and portable.  You can also store pictures and music on your nook, with the available 2gb internal memory which alone can store up to 1,500 eBooks.  There is an external Micro SD expansion slot which creates endless storage possibilities for your music, photos and eBooks.

Its best-in-class E Ink® Vizplex™  6in diagonal display is easy on the eyes with text as clear and crisp as a printed book. And with no glare or backlight and adjustable text size, you can read comfortably for hours.  But the nook has two displays.  One for reading, the other is a color LCD touchscreen for navigating through cover art, flip through your library, much like the iTunes or iPhone interface, and searching your contents via a virtual pop up keyboard.  The mix of color and E Ink creates a simple and intuitive design easy on the eyes for continuous reading.

Overall, the nook by Barnes & Nobles looks, feels and reads great. You can even compare the nook from B&N against the Amazon Kindle 2 by looking at this product comparison chart.  The nook can be pre-ordered now at B&N.com for $259.

Happy reading!
