You may know Mike Shinoda as the rapping emcee who contributes to Linkin Park by adding the hip hop flavor to the group, the talented producer who has worked with artists like Lupe Fiasco and has hand a hand in producing or co-producing all of Linkin Park’s albums. But Mike Shinoda is also an extremely talented artist. His ability to create art beyond music dynamically explodes in vibrant pieces of digital and painted imagery. Glorious Excess (Dies) is his voice, without the words.
His latest exhibition explores our culture’s addiction to celebrities, fame, money and the over the top lifestyle. In an age where superstardom dominates the media, Glorious Excess (Dies) immortalizes consumption, fame and wealth, challenging the viewer to question what is real.
“On one hand, this show is about obsession with celebrity culture, consumer addiction, and fascination with excess. On the other, this is about me growing up painting, and finally feeling like I’ve found a stylistic voice that expresses the ideas I want to get across in a gallery and show,” says Shinoda.
Glorious Excess (Dies) is his second exhibition of artwork, continuing on his previous exhibition Glorious Excess (Born) in July 2008. The exhibition of his works will be open for viewing until October 4th. The symbolism in Shinoda’s work is outstanding with impeccable style and appreciation to detail in a glitz-centered world. I highly recommend checking this exhibit out.
